Mining for Miracles - BC Children's Hospital Miracle Weekend

Stacey Kahn of BC Children’s Hospital Foundation (BCCHF) was on site at Knelson, a Langley manufacturing and process engineering firm, this week to accept Knelson’s 2010 donation to the BC Children’s Hospital in the amount of $13,326.19. "This is an exciting year for Knelson and its employees. We have been fundraising for the BC Children’s Hospital, under the umbrella of Mining for Miracles (BC Mining Association) since 1995 and with this year’s donation, we are also celebrating our total contributions surpassing the $100,000 mark." stated Leslie Moore, Mining for Miracles coordinator. Knelson’s supplier/agent network, sharing in Knelson’s commitment to the BC Children’s Hospital, realized their own record of $14,100 in contributions for 2010 and was recognized by BCCHF.

Mining for Miracles is part of the culture at Knelson. The phones at the "Miracle Weekend Telethon" had hardly stopped ringing, and during the week of June 7-11th, Knelson employees were out on the boulevard playing Bocce, getting a start on fundraising for 2011. The various lunchtime activities, such as Bocce, darts, pumpkin bowling, 50/50, and summer BBQs, are a fun way to socialize with fellow employees while helping a cause that seems to touch the lives of most employees at one time or another. Personal contributions from employees make up a large portion of the annual fundraising. With Knelson matching all personal donations, employee contributions go twice the distance.

This year’s Mining for Miracles cheque to the BC "Miracle Weekend Telethon" was an amazing $1,900,000. "It is so rewarding to see how our dollars, combined with the rest of the mining community’s, adds up to directly support tangible projects to benefit the sick children in BC." commented Mike Lloyd, Knelson VP of Finance. He added, "In the past 5 years, as a result of Mining for Miracles dollars, we’ve seen the completion of two SMART operating rooms and an infection disease research containment lab (CL3), as well as the purchase and installation of a 3T MRI scanner to bring world class diagnostic care to children affected by brain disorders."

"Many of Knelson products are exported globally," remarked Doug Corsan, VP of Sales, "but the heart and soul of Knelson remains here in BC, working to make a positive impact on the well-being of children in BC."
